Although calçotadas have been taking place for a few months in several towns across the county, the peak of the season begins with the Great Calçotada Festival of Valls, which, as usual, was held on the last Sunday of January.

Valls commemorates International Women’s Day with a variety of activities. The events will begin on March 3 and continue until March 25.

In addition to the usual reading of the manifesto on March 8 at noon, the program will include talks, workshops, sports and recreational activities, dance, theatre, circus and music performances, stories for the little ones, and, to conclude, the presentation of the Dolors Vives Awards.

As part of International Women’s Day, the Casal de Vila-rodona will host on Friday, March 13, at 7:30 PM, the talk “Women Against the Clock. Time Is Ours Too”, presented by the Catalonia pump track circuit champion Berta Martínez Prats.

The following day, Saturday, March 14, at 9:00 AM, starting from the Xavi Tondo Pavilion in Valls, the cycling event “Action on Wheels”” will take place, featuring two different routes and a refreshment stop at the Casal de Vila-rodona.

“Battle of Forgetting” is a contemporary circus show that recovers the strength, ingenuity, and rebellion of Las Sinsombrero, creators who were erased from history while paving the way for those who would come after.

The show combines aerial techniques, Cyr wheel, and Chinese pole, which intertwine to build a physical narrative that oscillates between delicacy and power, presented by the cultural association El Tingladu.

Anyone interested can enjoy a guided tour of the Montserrat Sanctuary in Montferri on Saturday, March 14. This sanctuary is the work of the modernist architect Josep Maria Jujol. It is an excellent opportunity to discover this architectural gem of the Camp de Tarragona, which took more than seventy-four years to complete.

Mar de Mars is a symphonic choral performance dedicated to the Mediterranean. Àngels Gonyalons is Talassa, the goddess who personifies the sea and guides us on this poetic and symbolic journey through this sea, cradle of civilizations, a path of hope and, at the same time, a space of destruction and death.

Among the performers stands out the Valls native Roger Padullés, who returns home with this work by the Fundació El Cor Canta, with text by Manuel Forcano and music by Feliu Gasull, Ferran Cruixent, and Anna Campmany.

When it premiered 150 years ago, The Incredible Box was a great success. In those days, people went to the fair booths looking for rarity and deformity, but they presented excellence and brought together the very best of that time: the finest opera singer, the best magician on the planet, the boldest performer, the greatest acrobat… All of them emerged from an extraordinary set.

Now, the director and two eccentric assistants try to keep the greatness of the show alive. But genius cannot be inherited… Perhaps in the end, after trying so hard, they will succeed.

Tarsiers are primates in danger of extinction that cannot reproduce in captivity. When they feel trapped, they self-harm, kill members of their own species, and even immolate themselves. Six young people with very different realities inhabit a meaningless, dehumanized, and absurd world. They hardly know each other, but, like tarsiers, when pushed to the limit, they unite with their peers in a common scream. Tarsius is a co-production of TNC and Teatres en Xarxa.
